The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) is the leading professional organization for science, practice, and education in the field of pain. Founded in 1973, IASP brings together scientists, clinicians, health-care providers, and policymakers to stimulate and support the study of pain and translate that knowledge into improved pain relief worldwide.
IASP has more than 7,000 members in 133 countries and sanctions 90 national chapters around the world. IASP is global and multidisciplinary. Our strength lies in our scope and depth of expertise. Membership is open to all professionals involved in the research, diagnosis, and treatment of all types of pain.
IASP journals and other publications are a leading source of scientific information on pain. The monthly journal PAIN® presents original research on the nature, mechanisms, and treatment of pain. PAIN Reports® is an open access online publication that offers multidisciplinary and readily accessible information on the clinical, applied, and research advances for pain. In addition to these two official IASP journals, the world's top experts in pain research and treatment publish with IASP Press, and our books for scientists and clinicians address timely topics in many pain fields.
IASP holds meetings around the world that help members and the public learn about new developments and advances in pain research and management. The World Congress on Pain® and meetings of our Special Interest Groups and chapters give attendees the opportunity to discuss innovative ideas and connect with colleagues from around the world. Our meetings attract basic scientists, clinicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, professors, researchers, trainees, and students.
